QI've heard that I should be looking to use a CMS, but what is a CMS?
A
CMS stands for content management system. We typically recommend using a CMS like WordPress or Joomla for your website. What this means is that your entire website will be controlled from one interface. From this one admin panel you can add and edit pages, easily add links and images, and customize your design, all without having any technical experience of your own.
This allows you to manage your own site without the extra expense of having a web designer update your site every time you want to change the text or add a picture. A CMS gives you full control of your website to save your time and your money.
QWhy do I need a webhost and what does that mean?
A You need a place on the web to store your site files and other things like images and email. A webhost provides you a space to upload these things and to build your site on so that it may be viewed by the public. Our hosting packages start at £10 a month. We include this for free for one year if ordering a new website.
QWhat is a domain name? How do I get one?
A Put simply a domain name is the address that people use to find you or your company online; it’s what you type in the browser’s address bar to go to a specific website. For example, our domain name is: www.webcentrix.co.uk
We can register and manage your chosen domain name on your behalf for £10 per year plus the cost of the domain from the domain registrar. We provide your first years domain name rental and management for free with all web design projects as standard.
QWhat kind of payments do you accept?
A
We are happy to accept PayPal or GoogleCheckout which can be used to securely pay online with credit or debit cards. We are also happy to accept cheque or bank transfer payments, however as we work on a cleared funds basis these methods may cause a slight delay to the commencement or release of your project or website.QHow long will it take to build my site?
A
We are often asked how long it takes to design and develop a web site. There is no exact answer to this, as the time will vary based on the complexity of the project, how quickly you respond to requests for feedback and approval of certain stages, as well as how large your web site is.
For the most part, however most web sites can be completed within 4-6 weeks. There are a number of variables involved – in addition to your timely response to feedback and approval requests, the scope of work will greatly affect the timeline, as well. For example, if you are having us design and develop a custom WordPress theme, and plan to add all of the content yourself, the average turnaround time will be considerably shorter than if you are having us develop all of the interior pages for you (based on your provided content).
QHow soon can you get started on my project?
A
We typically book projects 3-6 weeks in advance. You’ll want to keep this in mind for planning purposes so that we can get your project scheduled as soon as possible.
The process generally starts out with an inquiry by downloading and filling in the quote request form, after which we put together a detailed proposal for you with several options to choose from. Once you receive the proposal, we can discuss it further in order to address any questions you may have, and to decide on the best plan of action for your site.
After deciding that we are a right fit for each other, a signed contract and 50% deposit secures your spot on our development schedule.
QWill my site work in different web browsers?
A
Yes! Although we favor Mozilla Firefox for it’s strong support of web standards, we do test your web site in the latest versions of many of the most popular web browsers for optimum cross-browser compatibility.
We develop web sites primarily with Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer in mind, but check compatibility with Chrome, Safari, and Opera, as well.
Please note that we focus on the current web browser versions. In particular, when it comes to Internet Explorer, we test with IE7 and IE8 in mind. Due to it’s lack of security features, and lack of compliance with current web standards, we have phased out support for IE6. We can optimize sites for this outdated browser, however it would be at an additional cost.
QCan you still make changes to my site after it’s done?
AYes, but within reason. After we have finished installing your site, you will get a chance to look over everything and list any changes you want to make before it goes live. At this point we cannot make any changes to the layout or imagery which were approved at the mock up stage. However we have no problem making smaller changes: link and text colors, fonts, alignment, content, etc. We prefer if you look over the site fully and make one big list of changes and send that to us in one email rather than sending us 20 emails with one or two small things.
Once you have given final approval and the site goes live, responsibility of the ongoing maintenance and updates transfers to you. If there are any major or minor changes you want to make after final approval we are happy to assist either on a one off fixed price basis or on one of our ongoing maintenance packages.
